Row2Recovery - Steve Thompson
Steve Thompson, Leeds and England Hooker, has been a great supporter of our servicemen and their associated charities for many years. As an athlete who has had a taster of serious injuries, as well as being highly respected within his sport, Steve is the perfect candidate to work with Row2Recovery as an ambassador.
Row2Recovery is the brainchild of three British Army commanders who bonded during officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and later deployed to the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan. Alex, Ed and Tony are committed to raising £1 million to support the men and women who are prepared to give everything for their country, and ask for nothing in return. To achieve these campaign goals, ex-captains Ed Janvrin and Alex Mackenzie will team up with two injured service personnel and undertake a challenge successfully completed by fewer people than have reached the summit of Everest, or journeyed into space. At the end of 2011, this four-person crew will embark on an epic 3,000 mile voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in a rowing boat.
The World Cup winning rugby ace, who has battled back from his own career threatening neck injury to reclaim his England shirt, believes passionately in helping wounded service personnel and their families.
Steve joins Andrew Flintoff, Johnny Searle and Dan Snow on a growing list of celebrity backers of our fantastic cause.
“It’s an amazing and humbling job our servicemen and women carry out every day,” Thompson said. “Row2Recovery is a fantastic initiative and one which I wholeheartedly support. “The England rugby team are immensely proud of the job our service people do and if I can contribute in some small way towards helping those unfortunate enough to get injured, then I will.”
