Alun Wyn Jones hailed by Ospreys for his leadership
Alun Wyn Jones has been hailed by the Ospreys for his leadership ability as he bids to go head-to-head with Lions rival Donncha O’Callaghan.
Wales star Jones led from the front as the RaboDirect Pro12 champions secured their first win of the league campaign with a 23-16 victory over the Scarlets in last weekend’s big west Wales derby.
Jones kept Ireland ace O’Callaghan out of the Lions team for the first Test in South Africa three years ago.
But the Lions and O’Callaghan will be the last thing on the mind of Jones during the clash with crack Irish province Munster, who are fresh from walloping the Dragons 33-13 in Limerick last weekend.
“Alun Wyn would not consider the Lions,” said Ospreys assistant coach Gruff Rees.
“I know he loves the week-in, week-out rough and tumble of the league and going up against these type of characters."
“He’s clearly a world-class player for us and he relishes every situation."
“He relished last week when we were being deservedly kicked from pillar to post. He ups the ante in his own game."
“He had his frustrations coming off the bench against Glasgow the previous week. I look forward to him taking the field in a home game on Saturday, fully-charged, leading the battle from the front.”
