Lloyd Williams ready to step up to Welsh challenge
Cardiff blues scrum-half Lloyd Williams insists he is ready to step up his national challenge to Mike Phillips.
Phillips has recently found himself in disciplinary hot water with French club Bayonne after being suspended for off-field behaviour and is only returning to action this weekend following a hand injury.
So if Wales do have any concerns over the form and fitness of their Lions scrum-half, Williams feels he is ready to fill the No.9 jersey for next month’s autumn internationals.
“Mike was first-choice in Australia in the summer and rightly so because he was playing well,” he said.
“But I would like to think if Mike was not available I would be able to step into his shoes."
“If I was called upon, I would expect to be ready. I am a different player to Mike and bring alternative things to the table."
“Although I was young coming into the Welsh squad, I was never ever happy being second choice. I want to be first pick in anything I do because I am a very competitive guy."
“So I am hungry to try and be first choice this season.”
